Automatic mode selects the optimal gear, so that both you and the motor work your best.
The mechanical shift cable has been replaced with an electrical cable, which does not get stuck due to dirt or ice.
Kinder on the gear hub, chain and sprockets: the electronics delay the shifting until the pedal arms are vertical, and temporarily reduces motor torque during shifting, so that shifting is done under low tension.
This happens even in manual mode!
If you prefer manual mode, shifting is simpler than ever by a brief push of the up or down button.
Shimano Di2 electronic shifting has been tested and improved on expensive competition bikes over many years. It is now also available on E-bikes for ‘ordinary’ everyday riders!
Most E-bikes with gear hub have at best a Shimano Nexus 8 gear hub.
ELisabeth City Di2 has a Shimano Alfine 8 gear hub, which is a more expensive and durable model with less friction, for maximum durability and battery range.
Hub gears rarely need maintenance and may be shifted while standing still.
Eight gears with a large range from the lowest to the highest gear.
Shimano STEPS is one of the two most recognized E-bike systems on the market (the other one is the competitor Bosch). There are very rarely problems with Shimano STEPS, and as far as we know ELisabeth is the only bike manufacturer to offer:
5‑year warranty on both the motor and the battery!
Furthermore, Shimano STEPS is used on many E-bikes in the higher price range, so there are many shops than carry out service and repairs.
Mid-drive motor means that the motor helps power the pedals. This has two main advantages compared to hub motors, which are used on cheaper E-bikes:
A mid-drive motor is more fun to ride.
Due to built-in sensors, the harder you pedal, the more power is added by the motor, making you feel like a super(wo)man!
A mid-drive motor is stronger climbing steep hills.
When you shift down, the gear helps both you and the mid-drive motor, whereas a hub motor is not helped by shifting.
ELisabeth City Di2 has hydraulic disc brakes, like most modern cars.
Hydraulic disc brakes are self-adjusting, so that you always have perfect brakes without maintenance hassle.
Furthermore, disc brakes are not affected by the inevitable dirt and water on the wheel rims.
